Unlike 24-karat gold, which is too malleable for everyday wear, it offers the perfect balance between the nobility of the material and durability.

There are several "grades" of gold, depending on their pure gold content:
- 24 carats (99.9% gold): too soft for everyday jewelry.
- 18 carats (75% gold): the standard for fine jewelry, durable and radiant.
- 14 carats (58.5%) or 9 carats (37.5%): more economical, but less precious.
